See where your day actually went.

Stint sits in your Mac's menu bar and records which app you're in and what you're doing there: the file, the web page, the folder. Rules you write sort it into projects. Nothing leaves your Mac.

Free until 1.0.
For macOS 14 Sonoma or later.

Set it up once, then forget about it.

There are no timers to start. Stint notices when you switch apps, tabs and files, and records each stretch as it happens.

  1. Open Stint

It moves into the menu bar and shows what you're doing right now and today's total.

  2. Allow Accessibility

With it, Stint can read window titles, open files and web addresses. Without it, you still get time per app.

  3. Make projects

Add a rule like “file is inside ~/Code/acme” and every matching minute, past and future, lands in that project.

  4. Look back

Open the timeline for any day, or the reports for a week, month or year.

Your day on a timeline

Every stretch of work in the order it happened, coloured by project, with your calendar events alongside. Zoom in to the minute or out to the whole day.

  • Chronological or by app. One column for the day, or a column per app.
  • Fix it in place. Select blocks to move them to another project or delete them.
  • Gaps stay gaps. Idle time, sleep and a locked screen aren't counted.
The Stint timeline for a Thursday: Affinity, Slack, Chrome and Visual Studio Code blocks coloured by project.

Projects that fill themselves

Write a rule once and Stint applies it to everything you've already done and everything still to come. Projects nest, so client work can be split into the pieces you bill for.

  • File or folder is inside ~/Code/acme-web or website is acme.test
  • Window title contains Northwind
  • Web address contains github.com/lighthouse-dev
  • App is Mail
The Acme Co project: 21 hours this week, split between its Website and iOS App sub-projects, with the apps and folders the time went to.

Reports for a day, week, month or year

Totals per project and per app, the hours you're busiest, how much of your time was focused and how often you switched. Every chart can be shown as a table.

  • Focus is time spent in one app for 25 minutes or more.
  • Export any period as CSV or JSON, segment by segment or as daily totals.
The monthly report for September: 171 hours tracked, a calendar of active days, weekly totals by project and time per app.
Google Chrome selected in the Apps view, listing the pages visited this week grouped by website.

What was done in each app

Pick an app to see the files, folders and pages you spent time on, grouped by website or project folder.

Searching for “checkout” lists the matching files and pages, day by day, with the time spent on each.

Search everything you've worked on

Find the day you last touched a file or opened a page, then jump straight to it on the timeline.

It stays on your Mac

Stint has no account and no server. Your history is a single database file in your Library folder, and you decide how long it's kept.

No keystrokes, no screenshots

Stint records which app is in front, its window title and the file or web address. Never what you type or what's on the page.

Private windows stay private

Private and incognito browser windows are recorded only as “Private Browsing”.

Ignore what you like

Leave out apps, websites or folders entirely, or only at certain times. Password managers are ignored from the start.

Tokens stripped from addresses

Query strings and fragments are removed from web addresses before they're saved.

Work hours and pausing

Track only during the hours you set, and pause for 15 minutes, an hour or until tomorrow.

Yours to export or erase

Export everything as CSV or JSON. Delete a range of days or all of it, and it's overwritten on disk.

Free while it's getting to 1.0.

Every version of Stint before 1.0 is free to download and use. Updates arrive through the app when you ask for them, or automatically if you turn that on.
